Jack-O-Lantern and Pumpkin Patch bento #627

Jack-O-Lantern is one of my favorites to create every year; it's easy and there are many ways to create the face. I made this one with the cheese inside the sandwich cut to the shape of a pumpkin with the top slice cut to reveal the mild cheddar cheese for the glowing eyes, nose, and cheeky grin.

The other day, I carved half an apple with jack-o-lantern features and today I used nori with a little dab of water to create the face. The pumpkin patch is pumpernickel bread topped with mellowcream pumpkins made with real honey from Brach's. This lunch was packed in his Trudeau fuel Everest sandwich box.

This will be my last Halloween themed bento for this year. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween, and a great weekend!

Spider Halloween Bento

I made this lunch sometime last week and Nikolai told me that the spider on his apple sauce freaked him out, lol. This spider is so easy to make, I used a circle cookie cutter, some pretzels sticks for the legs and a couple of icing eyes to complete the face. The other spider on the organic apple sauce is half of a black grape with the other half sliced into thin wedges to make the legs. I love our leak proof Easylunchboxes mini dipper whenever I need to send applesauce or yogurt, they can be used with other lunchboxes as well or on it's own. This spider themed lunch was packed in his Easylunchboxes container.

BOO, Ghost croissant bento

Happy Monday! We had a fun weekend at several carnivals as this was the last weekend before Halloween. This simple ghost themed lunch was put together in 5 minutes when I was in a hurry. The croissant was from a French bakery near our home and I love the little delicacies from the store which are made fresh daily from scratch, they are oh, so tasty.

I used an octopus shaped cutter for the ghost BUT you can also use a small tulip cookie cutter, turn it upside down and use a small straw for the features. The croissant fits nicely into our deep and spacious Goodbyn Hero.

Ghostly Graveyard bento

The small green skull ring on the tombstone was brought back last year from school by Nikolai and he had asked me to keep it for his next bento. I used a tombstone shaped cutter for the sandwich and letter cutters for the mild cheddar RIP; a second sandwich was shaped with a ghost cutter, I used a slice of mozzarella cheese to which I added three small holes for facial details.
The Jack-O-Lantern face was carved into half of an apple that I thought looked enough like a pumpkin. This lunch is packed in a Laptop Lunches bento box.

Skull and Crossbones bento

It's been fun making Halloween themed lunches and Nikolai has been enjoying them. I used a skull shaped cookie cutter which revealed the provolone cheese eyes to which I added fruit leather cut with a small circle cutter to give it more of a haunting look. The bones were from mozzarella string cheese, cut in half lengthwise and carved the ends using a small paring knife. This lunch is packed in his Easylunchboxes container.

Mummy Tortilla Bento

I have made mummy bentos previously, but instead of using thin strips of cheese as I did before for the bandages, I tried something a bit different this time. I used tortilla to make some roll-ups and then cut another into thin strips to make the bandages. I found that it helps to stick them in place at the ends with just a tiny dab of honey or some other sticky condiments. With the candy eyes added they look as surprised as Nikolai might be.:) This lunch is packed in his Laptop Lunches.
