Santa Bento #646

Today is the last day of school before the year end break and this will be my last Christmas themed bento before the holidays. I have several winter themed lunches and those will be posted next year in January when we get back.

I have made a couple of Santa bentos previously, one of them with a strawberry hat. This time I used thin slices of apple instead, and a flower cutter to make the beard and eyebrows. I free hand cut the furry part of the hat from the same provolone cheese, used raisin bits for eyes and a cherry tomato for the red nose. The ball at the top of Santa's hat is a marshmallow.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Gingerbread Man bento

Yesterday we made a visit the school to enjoy the Young Inventors Fair in which Nikolai and the other students in the gifted program exhibited their latest ideas. Nikolai submitted a device for capturing the energy in ambient noise and converting it for use in charging batteries. There were so many other great ideas, some very simple, but quite elegant solutions to problems, others of a truly grand scale and every bit as clever. The kids are all so talented!

What would be a gingerbread cookie is in this example a sandwich made with honey wheat bread. Where there would be icing I used provolone cheese. I used bits of raisin for eyes and fruit leather for a scarf, holding them in place with a dot of honey.
He is not too keen on bell peppers lately, but I included a couple of pieces anyway hoping that he'll give them a try again.

Candy Cane Christmas bento

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Nothing else is quite like a grade school production of Charlie Brown's Christmas for getting in the holiday mood. We truly enjoyed the one presented by the combined efforts of the drama club, choir, and band at Nikolai's school last week.

This was a fun lunch for me to make though it took me a little more time than many of my other lunches. The carving of the apple was a challenge as I am not very steady with cutting small details. The candy cane sandwiches were made with a cutter and some fruit leather cut to make stripes. A small candy cane shape was also cut into the outer covering of a babybel cheese and the cut out portion was cut into pieces to make the stripe design.

This lunch was packed in a Fit and Fresh bento box, and this is the last week of school before the holidays.

Christmas Ornaments bento

I used an ornament cutter from my adorable set of Christmas cookie cutters/plungers to create the sandwiches for this lunch. The light bulbs cupcake picks are some of my favorites and I have owned them for years. This lunch was packed in a LunchBots Quad.

Christmas Tree and Presents Bento

We have our Christmas trees all decorated with lights and our collection of ornaments to which we add a few every year. We also already sent the packages that need International service, which is good, but we still have the domestic shipping so it isn't time to rest easy now. We also still have the outdoor decorations to set up!

I used a present cutter that I acquired a couple of years ago to make the sandwiches and made the tree of snap peas, a star cut from mild cheddar, a pretzel stick tree trunk, and a piece of Asiago cheese to keep it from sliding around. This lunch was packed in a Planetbox rover and I included a Lunchbox Love note for Christmas volume 3.

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Bento

I'll start our first Christmas bento of the year with Rudolph. I was looking back at my previous Rudolph themed lunches and they were also my first for the past two years and the dates which I posted are the same too, such a coincidence. Previous ones can be seen here.

This time I used a circle cutter for Rudolph's face instead of heart shaped cutter. I used the same cutter to make the ears as well. Rudolph's antlers were free-hand cut from the end crust of the loaf of bread and was for me the trickiest part. I used a grape tomato for the red nose and completed the face with a couple of candy eyes. This lunch was packed in an Easylunchboxes container.

CuteZCute Bear bento and New veggie cutter

A few weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised to receive a box of goodies from my favorite bento supply store, BentoUSA. I received a set of fun CuteZCute vegetable cutters which could create 6 fun shapes; flower, house, mustache, hat, animal face and butterfly. Although it is named vegetable cutter, you can also use them to cut cheese, bread, tortilla, cookies and more.

I used the flower cutter for the apples, hat cutter for the bear and animal face cutter (looks like a bear to me) for the cucumber slices. I used my CuteZCute cuddle palz sandwich cutter for the bear, which, with the organic grape jam filling, gives a sort of Linzer cookie effect. This lunch was packed in a Planetbox Rover.

Babies In Blankets Tortilla Roll-Ups Bento

I hope y'all had a great weekend! We enjoyed our long weekend with family and friends, eating, watching the Macy's parade from the comfort of home, relaxing and chatting. I have several lunches which I made before Halloween and this is one of them.

At first, I intended to name this post quick and easy roll-ups, but then, as I often do, I opened up the box where I store all of my food picks to find some cute ones. I soon came across these two faces which have not been used in a long time. It was after inserting the picks, that I came up with this blog title, lol. This lunch was packed in his Yumbox Panino.
