Easter Chick Bento, #698

I've been quite occupied with Nikolai's school activities, exams etc lately, and I am so happy that Spring break starts tomorrow! We will be going on a short vacation and I am thankful that my wonderful husband has everything planned. Usually we all discuss where we would like to go on vacation and then we always ended up going to wherever Nikolai or I suggest. This time, I told my hubby that I'm not going to suggest anywhere and he has to pick a place that he would like to visit.

Cute is cute, am I right? I mean, what really is the difference between a cute chick and a cute duck? Only after I made this, and already took the photo to post, did Nikolai notice that I included a duckling pick! I looked at the chick sandwich, then I looked at the pick; I don't know, close call I thought, wouldn't you agree?

The chick sandwich was shaped with a cutter and then I added Provolone cheese wings, a mild cheddar cheese cover for body, and a fruit leather bow tie. The little beak was sculpted from a piece or organic baby carrot, candy eyes and a small heart pick made it complete. This will be my last Easter themed bento for this year, packed in a leak-proof Bentgo lunchbox. We will be back next month. :)

Easter Bunny and Carrot Bento (2)

I'm already in vacation mode and it's only Tuesday! We will be on Spring break from this coming Friday till after Easter, yay! I'll be making one more Easter themed lunch for this week and you can view my previous Easter lunches here.

The first bento pictured here is a carrots and bunny lunch featuring two carrot shaped sandwiches which are topped with mild cheddar and with the tops made of sugar snap peas beside a Easter bunny container filled with Annie's Organic Cheddar Bunnies. Upper right are some apple bunnies/ bunny ears, and upper left is a piece of orange sweet pepper and some broccoli above sugar snap peas. I thought that the pepper and broccoli looked like a carrot. What do you think? This lunch was packed in an Easylunchboxes container.

This second picture is a Spring bunny bento. It includes four mini bunny stamped sandwiches, organic baby carrots topped with cucumber bunnies, organic apple sauce with bunny baran, and strawberries with grapes in a mini basket with a bunny pick. In the center are Annie's organic bunny fruit snacks. It was packed in our leakproof Yumbox Panino.

Butterfly and Quesadilla bento in Yumbox Panino (2)

This coming weekend Nikolai and others from his gifted students class will be participating in the local STEM Solar Car Challenge. Getting him to and from their meetings for design, construction, and testing made less time available for other things, and I've been super busy in the evenings. I can't wait to see them in action this coming Saturday!:)

I made a simple butterfly themed lunch shown in the upper photo, and a quesadilla lunch which he enjoyed on a different day. Both of these lunches were packed in his Yumbox Panino.
Have a nice Friday and weekend, everyone!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Bento Lunch

This will be a short post so with a little luck, I'll be able to post this lunch on St. Patrick's Day instead of after. While Nikolai is enjoying this lunch, my husband and I will probably be having lunch at an Irish restaurant.
This lunch was packed in a Go Green Lunchbox.

Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Piglet bento lunches (2)

Happy Monday! I hope y'all had a great weekend. I've been thinking that my days of packing Pooh and friends lunches may be numbered, hopefully not so much for the lunches but for sure the cute bento boxes. Nikolai is growing up so quick and boys' his age wanna be cool, he hasn't yet made any suggestion or request to that effect though, which is good as I enjoy looking at them myself!

Here is the first Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Piglet bento for which I used cupcake rings to decorate; they fit nicely above the circle sandwiches. His sides were organic apple slices, Babybel cheese and organic broccoli florets with a bee pick. This double tiered bento box was given to Nikolai by my good friend from Japan.

The next lunch is Pooh and Tigger sandwiches, cut and stamped, easy peasy. I made some no bake chocolate chip, almonds, oatmeal energy bars and included some in his lunchbox with 'honey' alphabet picks. His sides were organic baby carrots, ranch for dip in the cute Pooh container, yogurt star, seedless red grapes and sliced string cheese in a Pooh face container. This lunch was packed in his Planetbox Rover.

Penguin bento - Monbento Tresor Review

I was pleasantly surprised when the nice people over at Monbento contacted me awhile back to share the news of their new bento box, Monbento Tresor for kids, which is going to be released in the US, and offered to send me a set to try out. Since it's now being released and I've tried the box, I'm going to share with you what we think about the box.

Like the Monbento Original, which we also are pleased to own, their Tresor is made of top quality materials. Their award winning design shows the result of understanding and experience. All together this makes owning and using it a pleasure. The lower container has a capacity of 450 ml, and each of the other two food cups hold 150 ml and come with lids. While the lids are not completely leakproof for holding liquids, they do an excellent job of keeping the food separated. The Tresor cover is secured with two latches which are at the same time secure and easy for a child to operate. Also on the cover is a place for customizing tokens. Ours came with a collection of five disks to choose from, and I should think it quite easy to use one for a pattern and make your own artistic decoration. Monbento Tresor is available in the cheerful colors of Blueberry, Banana, Kiwi, and Raspberry.

In today's bento Nikolai will find a pair of penguin sandwiches with provolone tummies, made by using two circle cutters, carrot beaks, candy eyes, and little cheddar feet. The flippers were made by using a heart shaped cutter on the bread crust and dividing in two. In one of the food cups there are organic baby carrots and sugar snap peas. In the other there are grapes and strawberries with a little penguin pick. It was packed in our Monbento Tresor.

The photo below shows the MB Tresor components just prior to closing it up.

The last photo is of the MB Tresor ready to go and the collection of customizing disks that were included.

Leftover Pizza For Lunch and Leftover Lasagna For Lunch (2)

Daylight savings time started a couple of days ago for many of us. For others, this is a ritual in which we have to move our clock forward one hour. It's always difficult for me to get used to this change which makes it so dark in the mornings and I dread to wake up. The only time I like to wake up when it is dark like that is when we are going on vacation.:)

Sometimes after cutting a fruit, veggie or bread I get an inspiration for a particular lunch. On this occasion I thought I'd just pack some lasagna into Nikolai's Lunchbots insulated thermal and add some sides and call it good enough. After the bread was cut, a few slices looked like a puppy to me and I decided to add candy eyes and raisin nose for the features. I also added some bone shaped cheddar on his lasagna. Have you experience a similar situation? He also had seedless black grapes with a dog pick and crinkle cut cucumber slices as sides in his Lock & Lock container.

Here is a simple leftover pizza for lunch. I added a thin slice of smoked Gouda cheese on the top of the pizza, give me five! His sides were babybel cheese, pretzel snaps, baby carrots and red grapes. This lunch was packed in his Laptop Lunches.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Bento, Breakfast For Lunch

As you may already know, we are huge fans of breakfast for lunch or breakfast for anytime of the day. In this bento I used mini pancakes to make a caterpillar. After arranging them into the basic shape, I added the fruit leather feet, which I made by cutting the fruit leather into several 'L' shapes with the alphabet set and then dividing them into two 'feet'. Also from fruit leather I made the mouth and antennae then finally added some candy eyes.

Also included are some of Nikolai's favorite Applegate natural chicken and maple breakfast sausage in a silicone cup, a mozzarella cheese stick cut into two, a container of pure maple syrup and another silicone cup with grapes and a butterfly cupcake ring. I packed this lunch in our Monbento original bento box.

Bear bento and Tortilla Pinwheels in New Bentgo Kids with Review (2)

I acquired a bentgo kids lunchbox last week and I've put it to use for these lunches. The second lunch became a real test especially to check out the leak-proof feature. The compartments were quite generously sized. The inner tray is removable for cleaning or possibly using alone at the table if you don't need to take it away from home. The latches are easy to open and close, secure, and the colors are beautiful.

I'm thinking that although it is printed on it's box 'Recommended For Ages 3 to 7', it could be useful for kids of any age. Since the tray is removable, I believe you can use it as soon as a child is able to eat solid foods on a high chair. My son is 10 years old and we love the size of the box, it has five compartments which are great for a variety of foods. The largest compartment is good for sandwiches, leftovers, pasta, salad and more. The other compartments are perfect for fruits, veggies, snacks, yogurt, applesauce and dips.

In the first bento I included a crust-less sandwich with a bear face cutout with Asiago  cheese eyes and mouth on mild cheddar cheese. Along with the sandwich I included organic baby carrots, organic apple slices, Annie's organic white cheddar bunnies, and seedless green grapes with a cute pick.

For this second bento, I made some of Nikolai's favorite tortilla pinwheels (Sun-butter and strawberry jam) and his sides were strawberries, a Colby and mozzarella cheese stick cut into bite sized rounds, sugar snap peas and organic applesauce with a cute frog baran.

Keroppi Bento and Homemade bread bento (2)

The other day, my friend gave us some mini bread that she made for which, according to her, there was no need to kneed. I am pretty clueless about bread making as I have never made or baked any bread before. I always imagined that it's sure to be labor intense! I would say that the bread was very tasty and Nikolai must have thought so too as he requested I include some in his lunchbox for the next day.

I love Keroppi and I tried to figure out what can I use for his green face with bread. I was lucky when I found some toppers at Bento USA with a reasonable price for a set of four toppers which even came with Hello Kitty in the set (my personal favorite)!!

Here is the first bento with a Keroppi topper. I just had to remove the bread crust, and the topper added an instant cuteness. His sides were mozzarella sting cheese, organic broccoli florets and strawberry slices, green grapes and a cute frog pick.

The second bento lunch is the mini bread with organic cream cheese and jam. He also had wheat thins, string cheese cut into half, cucumber slices and seedless black grapes.
Both of these lunches were packed in his Planetbox shuttle.

3 Easy Breakfast For Lunch

These breakfast for lunch were packed during the days that Nikolai had half days at school, I believe around a month ago. He loves Morning Star Farms veggie burgers and requested that I include them is his lunch.

The first breakfast for lunch are mini pancakes. I separated the pancakes and the veggie burger with a baran sheet and included a giraffe fork/pick. On the top section are organic granola bar and dried fruit in a cute bear cup. Pure maple syrup in our leak proof mini-dipper. Apple slices in the bottom section of the Goodbyn bynto.

The next breakfast for lunch are french toast sticks with a cute Mickey pick in a large silicone cup, Halo mandarin orange and purse maple syrup in a leak proof mini dipper. Sides are organic granola bar cut into half and apple slices. This lunch was packed in his Easylunchboxes container.

The last breakfast for lunch is a Belgian waffle from Trader Joe's which I toasted in our small toaster oven in the morning. I heated the veggie burger in the microwave and cut it into stripes and added a cute Donald Duck pick on his waffle. His sides were organic Greek blueberry yogurt and orange slices. He had pure maple syrup in the center of the Yumbox for his waffle. I love our leakproof Yumbox for sending yogurt and dips!
