Bento Lunch #247 : Octodog Bento

Good Day! I have not made octodog for a while and this is by request.

Here is the tutorial :
1) Cut the hotdog into half
2) Using a knife, make a slit in the middle and almost 3/4 way down
3) Make a few more additional slits till you get 8 legs
4) Boil the hotdogs in a pot of boiling water and the tentacles will start curling up.
5) Remove from heat after a few minutes, let them cool down and I used food safe marker for the eyes and mouth.

  • Octodog on organic baby spinach
  • Top left - Wheat crisps, shredded cheese for spinach
  • Top right - Cantaloupe balls with octodog picks

Bento Lunch #245: Penguins and Spinach Bento

Back to school means back to routine for me. I have seen so many cute lunches with spinach on several other bento blogs and I have been loving/ admiring them for many many months :) Nick is an extremely picky eater especially when comes to veggies and it's always a huge challenge for me.

He usually gets to pick one veggie and one fruit that he would like for his school lunches during our grocery shopping. His usual words are 'no veggies'. Anyway, this is my 1st attempt introducing spinach in his bento. Packed in LunchBots Duo box. Linking this lunch to BentoLunch.net

  • Penguin shaped sandwiches (stacked) with Colby accent and icing eye, wheat thins.
  • Organic baby spinach with Asiago (his favorite) alphabets, seedless red grapes, yogurt stars from Tarder Joe's

Bento Lunch #244: Roll-Ups Bento

We had company over yesterday evening and I went blank with no idea whats for lunch today, happens to me quite often. Traders Joe's opened last Friday close to where we live. There is only one store in the whole of FL, wish they have more. It was packed with people from all over and quite difficult to move around, not to mention the parking problem.Hubby told me that I need to get a huge cooler for the suv looking at the way I shopped, funny.

Monday is President's Day here in America and it's a Public holiday as well as Tuesday. Have a great weekend and holiday!

My wonderful hubby proposed to me more than a decade ago, today. Still opens the car door for me is one besides everything else that he does for me:) We have an amazing son, I have a small biz and the most important thing of all, I am happy, what more can I ask for :)

Valentine's Day Bento Lunch #236: XOXO

There are several meanings of XO. Some of my relatives in Asia might refer it to Cognac/Brandy (XO means 'extra old' for how long a brandy is stored). Cooking with brandy is quite popular there and there are many varieties of XO sauce for cooking, yum. This bento is based on hugs and kisses, XOXO!
X = Hug ( It's like arms crossed or wrapped around someone)
O = Kiss ( It's like a pair of lips forming an O and ready to give a kiss)

Valentine's Day Bento Lunch #235: LOVE

Sassy lunch box is one of my favorites and I used it a lot when N was in Kindergarten last year. It is easy to pack and comes with 2 smaller & 1 larger removable compartments and each has a lid with it and also a small spoon. You can use it with or without lid. Besides, the main lid is secure and yet easy to open for his tiny fingers,my NO1 concern before.
I found mine at BabiesRUs and Target stores and price is reasonable too.

Need to make it early to the Farmers Market and get my hands on the BBQ pulled pork that was sold out and I missed last Friday. Have a wonderful weekend :)

  • Left- Heart shaped ham and cheese sandwich halved and stacked. Fruit leather alphabet and cheez-it crackers.
  • Right- Strawberry apple sauce with heart shaped sprinkles, veggie stix and colby hearts.
Here are the items or similar that I used to make this lunch.

Bento made by my Son 2-2

N is very enthusiastic about making a bento with PSA(Penguin Secret Agency) and EPF (Elite Penguin Force) theme; from his Club Penguin game which he is so into. He said he wanted it to be a 'heart' shape sandwich to show how much he loves his Penguins<3 He made everything for the top tier and gathered some snacks for the bottom tier into couple of food cups. He also made a food pick! All I did was roll up the ham, added some carrots and grapes. What a great little helper and I am so proud of him!

  • Top Tier- Heart shaped honey sandwich with organic fruit leather (PSA,EPF) alphabets, sprinkles, chocolate covered pretzels, pretzel snaps.
  • Bottom tier- Some sprinkles, garden salsa chips, ham roll ups, seedless green grapes, organic baby carrots and a food pick made by N.
